Great Places to Cool Off in Hong Kong

Swimming is an important part of a healthy lifestyle and there are plenty of places in Hong Kong to cool off this summer. However, a shortage of lifeguards may lead to some public pools only partially opening this summer. This is according to the Recreation and Sports Professionals General Union who said that 20 of the city’s 45 public pools had contacted swimming training clubs to warn them that they might not be able to operate all their facilities this summer due to staffing problems.

The HKFP is worried that these changes will affect training programmes and that some classes may be cancelled altogether. The government has responded by saying that it has introduced a number of measures to address the shortage including increasing the salary of seasonal lifeguards and recruiting them on two-year contracts.

There are also plans to introduce a pool management system that will allow school and training centres to book pools during the day when lifeguards are not available. However, they have to ensure that all swimmers are accompanied by a trained adult. The HKFP has also suggested that public swimming pools should allow schools and training centres to use their facilities even when no lifeguards are present, but only on the condition that a life-saving coach is always present.

With its stunning views of Hong Kong Island, the Tai Wan Shan pool is one of the best places to take a dip in the city. With three outdoor leisure pools complete with waterfalls, rocks and a footbridge and an indoor complex with the main pool, teaching and diving pools, this is a great place to visit for both families and individuals.
